DoUKnowJesus? asked:

I need to find an audio/video system. Is it possible to have one with closed captioning? Is there a system that can automatically transcribe when the cd or dvd is put in instead of having a transcriber to do the transcribing? The system is for a professional business (no medical business).

Most Important Home Recording Equipment and Supplies

Christa Kowalczyk asked:

Home recording equipment and supplies ensure quality audio output. There are several essential home recording devices.

On top of the list of home recorders are microphones. Microphones include dynamic microphones used for stage and studio. It is not required to use phantom power. It is compatible to use with snare drums and guitar cabs. Dynamic mikes are more durable. Condenser microphones on the other hand need phantom power. Ideally it is equipped with a large two diaphragm capsule and allows 3 directional patterns. Another distinction in mikes is its sound receiving capability or how it picks up sound - the difference between “omni-directional” and “directional” mikes. Directional mikes derive sound in a place directly before the microphone. The omni-directional mikes gather sound equally from all directions. A “cardioid” mike is the most common type of directional mike because it picks up audio thru a heart-shaped pattern radiating out from the front part of the microphone. The difference between mono and stereo mikes is that mono mikes record a one channel audio while stereo mikes derive audio from different signals with the help of a stereo recording device. Other microphone accessories include boom stands, mounts, pop filters, windscreens, transformers and stand arms. Windscreens have mike foam or cloth cover to reduce noise and ideally the fuzzy fabric type is the most effective type.

Headphones are used to monitor environmental noise, sound levels and generally recording quality.

Cables connect recording equipments and instruments. This includes instrument cables, microphone cables, connectors, adapters, cable organizers, cable testers, speaker cables, digital audio cables, pedal cables and adapter cables. Average good cable seems to cost in the range of 75 cents through $2.00 Speakers and loudspeakers are essential instruments to the sound being produced in side the recording studio. Good loudspeakers, efficient amplifiers and sub bass units should be prioritized.

Computers are important in home recording. It should have a required amount of processing and ram. Both Macintosh and Windows are acceptable platforms or operating systems that can be used.

Moveable compact disk recorders, direct-to-CD field recorder, DAT recorders, straight to laptop recording, standard mini disc recorders and Hi- MD recorders are audio recording equipments.

Digital audio workstations, software & audio interfaces include sequencers for digital audio and MIDI, software synthesizers and samplers, audio effects software, interactive composing software, computer sample CDs, dj software, educational software and CD burning software. These supplies are used for mixing, editing, recording and mastering computer. The existence of freeware for beginners in home recording is a good way to practice when recording a few of tracks. One example of freeware is Audacity. When using Macintosh operating system, the recommended audio recording software includes iLife, logic and logic express software. In order to convert analog signals from instruments and recording it to the computer one must have a digital-analog converter or the sound card. There are two sound cards: the high end and the outboard model. The high end soundcard is plugged into the motherboard while the outboard is attached thru an usb or fire wire with power source. High end soundcards are cheaper and ideal for beginners.

Last but not the least one item that can be useful in home recording is a video tutorial kit. One example is the Music Producer Pro which includes practical advice and demonstrations on music production.

Audio Mastering

Abhishek Rungta asked:

Audio Mastering is an extremely popular and scientific means of transferring and preparing recorded audio from the source to the data storage device, referred as the master. The process is mainly applied in the post production stages and involves high end sound processing techniques. The Audio Mastering process has experienced a series of transformations which started from the 1950s until the advent of digital recording in the late 1970s. During this stage the studio recording was completed in multi-track tapes and the final mix of the source was dubbed and prepared to the master tape in single or mono track form. Before cutting the master disc, the tape underwent electronic treatments which were performed by specialized mastering engineers. As days passed this technique became more popular and during the pop music boom Audio Mastering became a sought after profession.

During the 1990s the digital technology came into prominence and largely superseded the different electro- mechanical processes that were practiced before. DAW or Digital Audio Workstation became the new popular technique. The main purpose of DAW is to manipulate the recorded audio via the GUI or Graphical User Interface. It combines various high quality audio hardware and multi track software for Analog-to-Digital conversions or vice versa.

In comparison to an ordinary recording studio, an audio Mastering Studio is quite different i.e. it is equipped with more modern amenities. An audio Mastering Studio consists of various equipments like large consoles and monitoring devices that are required by the mastering engineers for various purposes.

The main processes by which the source is processed include equalization, compression, limiting and noise reduction. After getting rendered to a CD or DVD format, the source material undergoes track sequencing in the Mastering Studio. In the next level of mastering, tasks such as editing, noise reduction, fading in and out, leveling, signal restoration and pre-gapping are performed.

Besides the above processes, the Audio Mastering engineers also perform another important task i.e. the creation of a PMCD or Pre-Mastered Compact Disc. This is one of the important step that is followed in Music Mastering. Here the cohesive material gets transferred to a master disc for mass replication. In general, Music Mastering techniques vary according to the needs. The main steps that are generally followed for Music Mastering are listed below.

•    First the audio tracks are transferred into the DAW format

•    The tracks are then sequenced

•    The audio is then sweetened / processed with analog and digital audio mastering gear and / or dedicated mastering software for maximizing the sound quality

•    Then the audio is transferred to the final master format

With the changing times audio mastering via internet, the so-called online mastering, has become extremely popular. This service is a new, simple and hassle free way to work with the mastering facility of your choice. To get a musical production mastered a customer just visits the website of an online audio mastering studio and creates an account on one of the companies’ servers. The user later uploads his audio projects directly into the mastering studio. The online mastering studio then masters the music professionally. Payment is done online and the final delivery of the masters is through download. It is as simple as that!

Online-Mastering.com, the web based mastering studio, was one of the first professional mastering facilites that entirely focussed on delivering high-end audio mastering services online. More Information visit- http://www.online-mastering.com

Bob Lachinet asked:

How do you find the best home fitness equipment in Scottsdale? The answer is easy for some, but for those of you who have recently made the decision to buy exercise equipment for your home may not have a clue as to where you should start! There are so many different brands, models and styles it can be next to impossible to choose what’s right for you and your family. This article will provide you with information on what to expect, where to go and what to buy. Whether you’re looking for a basic machine or one with the latest technology has to offer, the following information will be beneficial to you and will help you choose the exercise equipment that’s right for you.

Before you begin your quest to find the best home fitness equipment in Scottsdale you should think about the things that will have an impact on the type of equipment you buy. Here are some questions that will help you get started:

- What are your fitness goals?

- Is your main goal to develop strength?

- Is it to improve your cardio vascular health?

- Are you trying to lose weight?

- Where are you going to put the equipment?

- What do you have room for in your home?

- How much do you want to spend?

- What kinds of technology and features do you need? What can you do without?

- Where are you going to do your research? Where will you buy?

Hopefully, you already have the answers to most of the questions. If you don’t, having the answers will make trying to find the best home fitness equipment in Scottsdale a lot easier! For instance, if you know what your fitness goals are, you can focus on buying equipment that will help you reach them. If your goal is strength training, you might want to think about buying a multi-functional cross trainer or a home gym. However, if you don’t have a lot of room in your home, it might be best to focus on dumbbells or a weight bench.

Maybe your goals are to improve your cardiovascular health or to lose weight. A treadmill, elliptical or exercise bike will help you achieve either one or both of these goals. They don’t require an exorbitant amount of space and can usually be tucked away in the corner of a room. If you don’t know what you’d like to spend, however, you can get carried away pretty easily! Most fitness equipment in today’s industry features extra bells and whistles that can significantly increase the ticket price. Heart rate monitors, customized programming, audio players and built-in monitors for TV and DVD are just a few of the things you can choose from when you’re looking at new equipment. Just keep in mind that you get what you pay for - a decent piece of cardio equipment can start at $1000!

The most difficult thing about shopping for home fitness equipment in Scottsdale is knowing where to go. Although large “chain stores” may offer basic home exercise equipment, you might fare better if you go to a store that specializes in only home exercise equipment. Many specialty fitness equipment dealers will work with you to choose what’s right for you, your home, your goals and your budget. You can even try out the equipment before you buy it.

And remember - it doesn’t end there. Once you buy a piece of exercise equipment, you have to get it to your home! Make sure the place you buy from will deliver to your home (often free of charge). Also, get specific details about warranties, product guarantees and return policies - it could save you a lot of time and money in the long run!
