    A great site for audio equipment is crutchfield.com
    Yes you can buy different brands of subs and speakers and mix them
    A good brand of subs is JL audio or Rockford Fosgate and good speakers would be like Alpines.

    I have a 2000 explorer w/ one pioneer 12″ and an 800 watt amp. this works good if your looking for good bump but nothin crazy. I was def impressed when i finally hooked it up because i wasn’t expecting it to sound so good

    Yes you can mix and match door speakers and subs it doesn’t really matter as long as you keep it around the same quality. You def don’t want crap speaker up front in your door of your explorer if you have the sub in the rear.

    I personally would go with a sealed enclosure in the explorer. You have enough air space in your car that your don’t need a ported box, and i personally think as long your don’t get a really high powered sub amp combo it sounds better with less distortion.
    would be the best spot to look first. you can buy a decent amp/sub/box combos for around 350-400 which would be the best if you don’t know alot audio specs and stuff. Bestbuy.com and circuitcity.com have combos also

    and if you don’t have an aftermarket cd player your best bet would be to get one. it’ll save you time if your installing the system yourself.

    and the power kit for your amp sub can be picked up too for around 70 bucks. most include the power, ground, speaker and remote wires. bushing and connectors and some have the inline fuse which i would recommend
