What’s up with the audio on CBS HD’s football coverage?

Thursday, May 14th, 2009
Dan asked:

When I watch football on CBS HD, it seems like the audio (both the volume and the speaker channels) go back and forth between two separate settings every few minutes, especially when they switch from the game to their “news desk” back at CBS headquarters. Anyone else have this problem??

I have a very high-end audio receiver and the best cable box that my cable company offers, so I am relatively confident that my equipment is not at fault … especially since it doesn’t happen on any other TV channel.

It’s really takes away from their coverage, just curious if anyone else notices it.

How can I hook a home theater system to a tv without an audio out but has speaker jacks?

Here is my problem, I bought a home theater from wal-mart and I think I may have purchased the wrong one. (I can’t return it, it has been too long) My tv has speakers that are external and are connected to something like this: http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/images/G13930B.jpg

This tv has no audio out aside from cables like that, here is where it is messed up. The home theater has these as the input from the tv: (Note: the one on the bottom, the Red and white input)

My equipment:
~42″ Plasma Magnivox TV
~RCA Home theater (RT2770)

Can anyone tell me how to hook this up, I have tried my local radio shack and got a cable that I rigged to fit both ends but nothing comes through. Are audio wires different then any old wire?

Thanks in advance, Dan.

What are the basic equipment of a home audio system setup?

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009
thomasthefool asked:

preamp, amp, receiver, watts over speaker limit, under speaker limit, subwoofer

What are all these things. What’s the difference between an amp and a preamp? Is a receiver an amp with a radio tuner (with a preamp as well?) ?

What happens when you go over the speaker’s watt limit? Do you blow the speaker?

I’m not making this up, but there was some article that said if you go under the wattage of a speaker That could Actually DAMAGE your speaker saying it’s unconventional wisdom but true.

Is it necessary to get a subwoofer? If you don’t get a subwoofer, do your speakers do the work?

Pardon my language but HOW THE HELL are you going to choose a good pair of speakers when there are an infinite number of brands all purporting to be high class?

Thanks that’s all I can think of?

Does the wattage of an audio receiver or speaker in any way indicate its fidelity or only its volume?

I need some way to get my remote signals into the closet. I will be mounting a HDTV on a wall in one room and all the A/V equipment in a closet behind the wall. I only have a DishNetwork receiver and a DVD player now but plan to add a surround sound system in the future. How do I operate these devices?

Joo M asked:

I want to mount plasma TV over firepalce, but hide all the audio/video/cable equipment in the side of the room (15 feet away). Is there an equipment that I can buy to hook up to my receiver that allows me to run just 1 wire to the TV and control input to TV with a remote control ? Rather than having all different DVD/cable/DVR cable wires running to the TV? Ideally, it would be a HDMI that I run to TV and somehow convert cable/DVD/VHS/DVR or any other video input. Is this a possibility or is there a better solution? I just don’t want to see the equipment out in the open w/ all the wires.. They are not the best things to look at…
